About Me
My name is Brynna Seligman and I am a junior at Nipmuc Regional High School in Upton, Massachusetts. One day I hope to make an impact on the world through science, and I thought that taking the Legacy course would be a good place to start. I hope to develop my legacy in this class by working on inquiries that I am curious about and connecting them back to the community in some way. Each of my inquiries will also be connected to one or more of the Portrait of a Learner Competencies, which you can read more about below. I have many passions including, chemistry, programming, political science, music, and dance. I hope that through this course I will be able to further these passions, and see how many of my passions can connect in the real-world. I hope that through my inquiries I will be able to further my passions.
Over the past summer I attended a Green Chemistry Research Program in which I spent three weeks learning about green chemistry, doing research, and working in a lab. This experience inspired me to learn more about environmental chemistry as I have always been passionate about saving the environment and chemistry. When I began Legacy, I brainstormed many ways that I could combine many of my passions, and I came up with my ocean plastics inquiry which you can visit by clicking here. To the right you can see pictures of my time this summer. These pictures were taken during just a few of our labs.

Portrait of a Learner Connections
The Nipmuc Portrait of a Learner is a set of six skill based competencies that the school district believes are the most crucial set of skills that their learners will need in the real world. The hope is that through their time in school, they will be able to develop these skills so that when they walk out of Nipmuc, they will be capable and confident to do whatever is next on their path, whether that be by going into the workforce, attending a college or university, or by taking internships or doing volunteer work. This skills set. identifies the key skills that all learners in the 21st century need to develop. I can connect Nipmuc’s Portrait of a Learner to my inquiries in many ways. I will use my inquiries as a way of developing the skills which go along with the Portrait of a Learner competencies. By working on developing these skills, I will be more prepared for my future, as each of these competencies are crucial in our world today. To see how I am connecting my inquiries to the Portrait of a Learner, click here. The six competencies which you can read more about by clicking here, are: global citizen, inspire innovator, solution seeker, skillful collaborator, mindful learner, and effective communicator.

Student Testimonial
Legacy has taught me so much, but what has stuck with me the most is that sometimes, you just need to put yourself out there and see what happens. When we challenge ourselves to step outside of our comfort zones to try something new and when we allow ourselves to feel vulnerable, we often grow exponentially. Legacy has shown me that I CAN achieve much more than I believe I can, but only if I have the courage to take risks. "
